Each year the Bellville Lions Club selects a citizen from the Bellville Community as its Citizen of the Year.  The selection was started in 2008 with the first recipient being Mrs. Hilda Anderson.  The recipient is provided with an engraved plaque, dinner and recoginition in the local newspaper.
